Happy new month, friends! 👋🏼

I wanted to kick off May with a very special collaboration podcast episode with some inspiring women in the DevOps space.

The fire behind Ladies in DevOps

As I mentioned in my previous blog post, I started the “Ladies in DevOps” community last month. This community was actually first inspired by this exact episode! After speaking to Erleene, Yasmin and Rahmat I realised how there is a shared problem that there is a lack of women in the DevOps space.

Obviously, this isn’t new in the tech world, but compared to other areas of tech, DevOps/Infra/Cloud seem to struggle with a gender balance.

Inspired by our shared feeling of isolation and lack of people that look like us in our teams, I spent a Sunday evening putting together a website, Discord community and asking Clark to help me put together some kind of branding (he’s good at that 🤷🏻‍♀️)

On Monday, Ladies in DevOps was officially born and now we’re 400+ community members!

I’m so grateful for all the support from Erleene, Yasmin and Rahmat as well as those that have shared across social media! A big shoutout as well to DevX Conf for posting our logo on their conference website and Open Up The Cloud for listing us on their communities page.

It’s been about 3 weeks since we launched and I’ve already felt like it’s become a safe space for people to share experiences and learnings. Favourite community of all time? Maybe. 😉

    I didn’t know you guys had started a podcast. That is awesome! I’ll definitely be checking it out. I’ve been really trying to find free ways to learn development, as I used to LOVE learning coding and designs a few years ago. Unfortunately life happened, and I completely forgot what I learned over the years. Also I epically failed my Python class in college last year, and it really left me feeling defeated and like I couldn’t do crap.
    After reading through some of my favorite blogs, yours included, I realize a lot of people feel like they suck at coding/programming laguages sometimes and it’s best to continue not to give up, wven when it feels like learning ancient greek sometimes.

    As always, I love your posts, and your continued stance for women to emerge in the tech industry is crazy admirable. I can’t wait to check out the podcast!

      Awh, thank you so much Shanae! I hope that you enjoy the podcast when you get round to listening to it. P.S. have it on 2x speed if that works for you 😂

      Absolutely understand what you mean. When I first started coding, I loved designing and coding but then I took a break from it and when I got back, it took a good year or two to get my head back in the right space. I would say, don’t rush yourself. Learning coding is a long journey! There will be moments that suck and where you want to give up, but you shouldn’t. It gets better with consistent practice. 😊 Keep persevering!
